Trochilic High-Pressure Gas Engine

Trochilic Engines :: Engines :: Trochilic High-Pressure Gas Engine

The rotating piston high pressure gas engine, thou similar in concept to the combustion engine is mechanically much simpler. It requires input of an expanding gas, such as steam, for the power stroke followed by an exhaust stoke. There are only two Variable Geometry Volumes in rotation as opposed to four of the combustion engine. This eliminates the need of the gear cage used in the combustion engine. Each VGV has pressure applied nearly 180° mimicking a multi cylinder engine. By reversing the order of power input, that is, turning the out put shaft will make the engine function as gaseous fluid pump.
